Summary of Duties:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Advocacy and Public Affairs Officer, the Advocacy and Public Affairs Assistant will support the Embassy’s advocacy, public affairs, and cultural diplomacy initiatives, contributing to the promotion of Canada-Korea relations. This position will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of cultural events, public diplomacy and advocacy campaigns, and outreach activities. The position will work within the Public Affairs Unit of the Embassy’s Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service (FPDS) team, led by the Political, Economic & Public Affairs Counsellor. 

Main Duties :

  • Assist in organizing and supporting cultural and public diplomacy events hosted by the Embassy; 
  • Liaise with Canadian and Korean cultural and public diplomacy organizations and partners to support collaborative projects and event logistics;
  • Assist in the preparation of promotional materials, including brochures, invitations, event programs, and digital content;
  • Support the timely delivery of media monitoring services by coordinating daily with media monitoring contractors; 
  • Draft and post social media content (texts, images, and videos) related to cultural and public diplomacy initiatives;
  • Provide basic translation and interpretation (Korean-English) for official meetings and simple documents, as needed;
  • Support the tracking of the public affairs budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring accurate financial reporting;
  • Receive and handle general inquiries from the public via telephone, email, or in person, related to the position’s portfolio;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the FPDS Program Manager or the Senior Advocacy and Public Affairs Officer.


 

Job Requirements

Area of Selection:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university in a discipline related to the job requirements OR an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

 
Language:

  • Advanced proficiency in English and Korean (speaking, writing, comprehension and reading).

 
Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cultural diplomacy, public diplomacy, arts administration, event coordination, or a related field.

 
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
 
Knowledge:

  • General knowledge of Canada and Canadian government’s foreign policy priorities in Korea; 
  • General knowledge of Canadian and Korean art, culture and public diplomacy.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.

 
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
