Job Description :
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was founded in 1967 with the purpose of promoting regional cooperation in Southeast Asia, in the spirit of equality and partnership and thereby contribute towards peace, progress and prosperity in the region. ASEAN comprises ten (10) countries in Southeast Asia, with Timor Leste as its 11th member with an “Observer” status. It was proclaimed a community through the “Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together,” signed by the ASEAN Leaders during the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2015. The ASEAN Community Vision 2025 calls for the ASEAN Community in forging ahead together, and to work towards building a community that is politically cohesive, economically integrated and socially responsible.
The ASEAN Secretariat was established in 1976 by the Foreign Ministers of the ASEAN Member States with basic functions of providing greater efficiency in the coordination of ASEAN organs and for more effective implementation of ASEAN projects and activities. It is also envisioned to be the nerve centre of a strong and confident ASEAN Community that is globally respected for acting in full compliance with its Charter and in the best interest of its people.
The economic relations between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have been expanding over time. In 2022, the two-way merchandise trade between ASEAN and ROK tripled since the ASEAN-Korea Trade in Goods Agreement (AKTIGA) entered into force in 2007. Both sides are now reviewing the implementation of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA) to see the possible upgrade to further expand the ASEAN-Korea economic relations.

To support the implementation of the AKFTA, ASEAN Economic Community of the ASEAN Secretariat is inviting Indonesians Citizens or ASEAN Nationals who are already residing and eligible to work in Indonesia to apply for the position of Project Officer to Support Economic Cooperation Between ASEAN and Korea. This position will be funded by ASEAN-Korea Economic Cooperation Fund (AKEC).
Remuneration and Benefits:
A competitive remuneration package at the level of Officer of the ASEAN Secretariat will be offered commensurate with experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Subject to good performance during the probation, the candidate will be offered a fixed term contract of three (3) years, inclusive of the six-month probationary period.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Head of External Economic Relations Division, ASEAN Economic Community Department of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Project Officer will provide the following support for economic cooperation between ASEAN and Korea provided under the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Area (AKFTA):
1. Programme and project coordination
- Coordinate the development and implementation of economic cooperation projects/capacity building activities provided by Korea to ASEAN that are supported by the ASEAN-Korea Economic Cooperation Fund, as well as other relevant funds.
- Keep track of projects and draft relevant monitoring reports.
2. Negotiation and meeting support
- Provide administrative and technical support to meetings of the ASEAN-Korea FTA Implementing Committee and its relevant subsidiary bodies.
3. Public communications
- Respond to enquiries from researchers/private sectors/public sectors.
- Prepare the communication material documents including press release, joint media statements, public report, as necessary.
4. Undertake other ASEAN Secretariat tasks as required
- Prepare the necessary documents for other meetings as required.
- Provide other support to the ASEAN Secretariat, as required and if available.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the area of international economics, international trade, or international trade and investment law, with not less than three (3) years progressive experience in a relevant area.
- Experience in policy research, advocacy and project management.
- Strong administrative capabilities.
- Understanding of, and keen interest in international and regional issues, and knowledge of and commitment to ASEAN ideals.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain working relationships with government representatives, public and private sector organisations and other stakeholders.
- Meticulous and proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaborative work practices.
- Good command of English, written and spoken.
- Competency in computer skills including with adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
