Summary of Duties:
2024-2025 has been designated as the Year of Cultural Exchanges between Canada and Korea. Multiple projects and initiatives have been developed to advance Canada-Korea relations through cultural promotion, cultural diplomacy, and strengthening of business and people-to-people ties.
This officer-level position will provide coordination and implementation support for the Canadian cultural diplomacy programming in Korea as well as for a creative industries trade mission during the Year of Cultural Exchanges. The officer will be working within the Embassy’s Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service (FPDS) team, but will also partially collaborate with the Embassy’s Trade section.
Main duties:
Support for the Cultural Diplomacy Programming:
Under the supervision of the Senior FPDS Officer in charge of the Embassy’s public affairs and cultural diplomacy unit, the officer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Develop, coordinate and implement the planned cultural programming, events, and initiatives;
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the cultural and artistic communities;
• Prepare promotional materials, press releases, and social media content to publicize cultural events and initiatives;
• Support the development and implementation of the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy strategies and policies;
• Prepare draft reports, briefings, and presentations on the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy activities and outcomes;
• Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, translation, interpretation, and documentation related to cultural activities.
Support for the Creative Industries Trade Mission:
Under the supervision of the Commercial Counsellor at the Canadian Embassy, the officer will work with the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Embassy’s Trade team towards delivery of a Creative Industries Trade Mission.
• Closely work with Canadian Heritage and a designated local consultant, as well as various stakeholders within the Korean creative industries ecosystem, to support the planning, coordination and delivery of a creative industries trade mission led by Canadian Heritage;
• Provide administrative, logistical, and strategic advice to ensure a successful delivery of the trade mission.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education: Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
• Undergraduate degree from a recognized university in a discipline related to the job requirements OR an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Language:
• Advanced proficiency in English and Korean (speaking, writing, comprehension and reading).
Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cultural diplomacy, cultural promotion, arts administration, events coordination, or a related field.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Methods of assessment for the essential requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview online, pre-recorded or in-person, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
• General knowledge of Canada and Canadian government’s foreign policy priorities in Korea;
• General knowledge of Canadian and Korean arts, culture and creative industries;
Competencies:
• Judgement and adaptability;
• Sense of initiative;
• Capacity to establish and maintain effective professional networks;
• Capacity to work effectively in a team environment, to follow guidance and to work autonomously.
Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Korean;
• Able to prioritize and work under pressure;
• Project management abilities, including basic budget planning;
• Ability to conduct research, analysis and reporting;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms, as well as use of digital editing software.
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
• Advanced ability in French, both written and oral
Operational Requirements:
• Adhere to Canada’s Code on Values and Ethics;
• Working hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week;
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends), sometimes on short notice;
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically, particularly in and around the Seoul Metropolitan Area, as well as in the rest of the country, as required.
Area of Selection:
