The Embassy of Ireland, Republic of Korea is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to fill a full-time Public Affairs Officer position.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the needs of the Embassy, but will include the following:
• Lead the creation and implementation of an Annual Public Diplomacy Plan for the Embassy;
• Find opportunities to promote Ireland as a place to invest in, and do business with, in collaboration with the State Agencies, leveraging high-profile visits from Ireland as appropriate;
• Work with partners to promote of our values, in particular on gender equality, LGBTQ rights, climate action and food systems;
• In the medium-long term, coordination of Ministerial visits and events surrounding St Patrick’s Day, Bloomsday, and St Brigid’s Day;
• Promotion of the Working Holiday programme and Study in Ireland fair, and Ireland as a place to live, work in, and study in;
• Support to cultural outreach, promoting Irish music, sport and literature in particular;
• Deepen the Embassy’s understanding of the policy and political context, providing briefings as appropriate to the Ambassador and team of diplomats;
• When required, represent the Mission at meetings with relevant stakeholders, especially the EU Public Diplomacy team;
• Create and manage a network with Korean media, identifying opportunities to feature aspects of Ireland;
• Manage the Embassy’s social media outreach, with an emphasis on visual material, and Korean language communication;
• Participate in the Department’s Communications network;
• Liaise with HQ to ensure that the advice and information on the Embassy website is up-to-date and useful, and that the commercial content is appropriate;
• In addition to the above, the Public Affairs Officer may be required to carry out other functions subject to the business needs of the Embassy.
Terms and conditions of employment:
• The successful candidates will be hired on a twelve month fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Embassy of Ireland in Seoul, Republic of Korea. There may be an option to extend, subject to satisfactory performance and Mission requirements;
• Monday to Friday, with standard office hours from 9am to 5pm;
• Annual Leave entitlement 20 days per annum, plus public holidays;
Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:
• Degree in a discipline relevant to the role (Politics, Economics, Business Media/Communications, International Relations or Law);
• Fluency in English and Korean, written and spoken;
• Minimum of two years relevant work experience;
• Strong knowledge of the Korean political, economic and commercial landscape;
• High degree of integrity and trust;
• Effective communication, networking and reporting skills (including understanding, summarising, reporting and communicating complex information);
• Excellent inter-personal skills, and a ‘can-do’ attitude;
• Good organisational skills, a self-motivator;
• Strong team player;
• Legal right to reside and work in Korea.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
• Post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline;
• Minimum of five years relevant work experience;
• Knowledge of Irish political, economic and commercial landscape;
• Some knowledge of Irish culture;
• Experience of working in another Embassy.
Selection Process:
• Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above.
• It is planned that interviews will be held in early December 2024;
• A skills test may be included in the recruitment process;
• A second interview may be included in the recruitment process;
• A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates.
