Official Residence Housekeeper

Intent:

The Embassy of Canada in Seoul is looking to welcome a dedicated and energetic individual to work as an Official Residence Maid. Under the general supervision of the Chef/Official Residence Manager, the incumbent is responsible for all housekeeping aspects of the official residence. Housekeeping aspects entail maintaining lavatories, hallways, entrances, kitchen and working areas in a clean and orderly condition. This includes washing and cleaning floors, table tops, windows, as well as vacuuming/dusting and removing waste. The incumbent is also required to assist with hospitality and event duties. 

Area of Selection:

  • This external competition is open to all applicants eligible to legally work in Korea who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.  This includes employees of the Embassy and Canada based staff dependants.

Summary of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Chef/Official Residence Manager:

  • Cleans all areas of the Official Residence including representational areas
  • Cleans cutlery and tableware;
  • Assists with cleaning duties before and after official events, receptions, meetings, including setting tables, general preparation, cleaning and putting away dishes, cleaning premises and washrooms, etc.;
  • Monitors appliances and reports any broken goods and/or loss of items in a timely manner;
  • Assists with preparation of meals;
  • Serves meals and beverages at official events;
  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Essential Qualifications:

Applicants must clearly demonstrate on their application that they meet all of the essential qualifications.

Language:

  • Fluency in Korean, both written and oral.

Education:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of recent (within last 5 years) experience as maid, residential cleaner or other similar position.
  • Proven ability to work courteously and effectively in a multinational team. 

Rated Qualifications

Candidates will be evaluated, and must demonstrate through the selection process, that they meet the following qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of complete house-keeping methods and procedures including up-keep and care of internal & external furniture;
  • Knowledge of health and safety principles for housekeeping in a residential space;
  • Knowledge of table settings for formal events. 

Abilities:

  • Ability to fluently speak and write in English;
  • Ability to fluently speak and write in Korean;
  • Ability to handle pressure.

Asset Qualifications:

Language:

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral;
  • Fluency in French, both written and oral.

Education:

  • Specialized education/training in housekeeping services.

Experience:

  • Experience in cleaning diplomatic missions, international hotels organizations;
  • Experience working in expatriate residences;
  • Experience serving meals and beverages;
  • Experience in dealing with general public;
  • Experience in table settings for formal events.

Operational Requirements: 

  • Ability to work overtime;
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy items;
  • Annual leave may be restricted due to operational needs;
  • Requirement to undergo training and obtain (and maintain) security clearances;
  • As a member of the Canadian diplomatic presence abroad, required to adhere to Canada's Code on Values & Ethics;
  • Hours of Work: 40.0 hours per week, 5 days a week;       

Conditions of Employment: 

  • The hiring or appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to obtaining Reliability Status (RS) through the Management and Security section of the Embassy.  Please note that RS must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal.
  • Ability to maintain a valid working authorization in Korea for the duration of the employment term is a condition of employment at the Embassy of Canada. If applicable, proof of Visa is required.
