Mission and objectives
The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity, for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. WFP brings life-saving food to people displaced by conflict and made destitute by disasters, and help individuals and communities find life-changing solutions to the multiple challenges they face in building better futures. The Programme works to enhance nutrition in women and children, support smallholder farmers in improving productivity and reducing losses, help countries and communities prepare for and cope with climate-related shocks, and boost human capital through school feeding programmes.
Context
Since 1968, WFP has been actively involved in providing humanitarian and development assistance in Côte d'Ivoire, focusing on reducing gender inequalities, boosting educational outcomes, and promoting food and nutrition security. Its approach combines emergency response with long-term development initiatives to build resilience and human capital, contributing significantly to national progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). In collaboration with the government and its partners, WFP operations in Côte d’Ivoire are focused on school feeding, resilience-building and institutional capacity strengthening, with an emergency component to maintain WFP’s agility to quickly respond to emergencies. The Korean UNV will be engaged in all components of WFP Côte d’Ivoire’s Country Strategic Plan 2019-2025, with a focus on WFP-KOICA joint project “Promoting Health and Nutrition through School Feeding in Northern Cote d'Ivoire”. Monitoring and evaluation are critical to track progress towards the objectives that WFP has set in the framework of this Project.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director and Head of Programme, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Supports coordination with key stakeholders, including KOICA M&E team, for data collection on project indicators and baseline study of the homegrown school feeding programme, and particularly the KOICA-funded project (under approval) focusing on (1) education and health of school children and on (2) economic impact of WFP interventions on smallholder farmers. • Assist in setting up and maintaining a practical system for tracking project implementation, ensuring oversight of implementing partners, and documenting lessons learned. • Conduct field visits to support the monitoring of project activities, collect and analyze data, and contribute to internal and external/donor reports with accurate and clear information. • Support the development and maintenance of a database of key project indicators, including gender, disability status, and origin (asylum seekers), in target areas. • Contribute to monitoring the situation of women and girls with project partners and support research to identify challenges affecting them. • Support the development and implementation of M&E frameworks, monitoring calendars, and standardized data collection to enhance programme performance. • Facilitate learning from monitoring results, contribute to knowledge management activities, and support capacity-building efforts for stakeholders and partners in using digital monitoring tools

Living conditions and remarks
Côte d’Ivoire is one of West Africa’s most dynamic economies, offering a vibrant and diverse living environment. Abidjan, the country’s economic capital, is a modern and cosmopolitan city with well-developed infrastructure, a wide range of services, and an active social and cultural scene. The city provides various housing options, international schools, healthcare facilities, and recreational activities. However, like many large urban centers, Abidjan faces challenges such as traffic congestion, occasional power and water shortages, and varying levels of air quality. Security conditions are generally stable, though it is important to remain aware of local developments and follow standard safety precautions.
