Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Canadian Defense Attaché Assistant (CDAA), Program Assistant to the Department of National Defence (DND) provides administrative support services to the DND program. This includes clerical duties such as: receiving telephone calls and visitors, preparing material such as reports, letters in English and host country language, and charts, as well as making travel and accommodation arrangements, scheduling meetings and appointments, assisting with pre-visit arrangements and hospitality events.

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

•    Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in any discipline, or
•    An acceptable combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position, including but not limited to business or economics.



•    Advanced written and spoken proficiency in English
•    Advanced written and spoken proficiency in Korean



•    At least 2 years of recent* experience in the following areas:
o    Experience in client service, providing administrative support and interaction with the public
o    Experience with electronic filing systems or information databases  
o    Experience preparing well-written and accurate correspondence as well as managing information and databases (MS Office, Outlook, etc.)

*Recent is defined as within the last 7 years



The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

•    Experience working in diplomatic missions, government agencies or international organizations
•    Experience with a military environment
•    Ability to speak in French language.



Operational Requirements:

•    Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week. And ability to work overtime, when needed and on short notice.
•    Location of work: Embassy of Canada to Korea
•    Travel Requirements: This position might require travel throughout South Korea and the internationally as well as to Canada.



Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment:

•    The hiring or appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to obtaining Reliability Status (RS). Please note that RS must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal
•    Ability to maintain a valid working authorization in South Korea for the duration of the employment term is a condition
•    Health assessment may be requested at the discretion of the Head of Mission.
