Job Description

Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea                            
The deadline for submitting applications is 20/09/2023
Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in the Republic of Korea?

               
We offer:
traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea, starting in November  2023.
The PPI Section contributes to the work of the Delegation by:

  • monitoring, analysing and reporting regularly to Headquarters on internal and regional political developments, foreign policy and other policy areas including climate change and human rights;
  • Maintaining contact with all relevant counterparts in order to report on these developments and promote the EU's positions; 
  • Providing support to visitors from EU institutions as well as providing briefing dossiers, speeches, statements, press releases and articles; 
  • Coordinating EU Members States' joint positions and actions; 
  • Organising public diplomacy events, cultural events, creating social media contents, monitoring and managing the feedback on social media to raise the visibility of the EU and its Delegation's work; 
  • And carrying out press, information and communication activities.

Main tasks:

  • Research and analysis of information;
  • Attend, organise and participate in meetings, cultural and visibility events, seminars and conferences with a view to drafting reports and promoting visibility;
  • Support the Section in the preparation of visits, missions and meetings as well as follow-up action;
  • Provide support to the members of the PPI section in their daily activities, under the supervision of the Head of Section;
  • Assist the Press and Information Officer in support of PR and media activities, inter alia on social media (Instagram, Facebook and X ex-Twitter);
  • Draft press digests and information bulletins;
  • Support the Delegation on other administrative, logistical and operational tasks.

 

Job Requirements

We look for:
Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Good knowledge of Korean is essential
  • Excellent knowledge of English (C1 level - Proficient user) is required
  • In addition, a profound interest in Public Relations activities is required. Skills and experiences such as in online content publishing, photography, graphic designs, Photoshop, filming and editing will be an added asset.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.

The role of the Delegations of the European Union to the Republic of Korea

The  EU delegation in the  Republic of  Korea is one of the 137 EU diplomatic missions located around the world.

The Role of the Delegation

§ To represent the Union, as appropriate, in the Republic of Korea.

§ To inform the European Union on political, social, economic, external relations and trade developments in the Republic of Korea and, in this regard, to maintain contact with the principal players in the fields of politics and public life generally, the economy, business, civil society and higher education.

§ To ensure a smooth and fruitful development of bilateral relations in the political, economic, commercial and co-operation fields and to seek to develop and encourage initiatives to promote co-operation under the Framework Agreement

§ To monitor and ensure implementation of the EU-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement

§ To promote and protect the EU’s interests and values and to spread knowledge and raise awareness of developments in the EU, its policies, purposes and aims with a view to engendering a better understanding of EU affairs and establishing a higher profile for the EU.

§ To promote the EU’s policies in all areas.

§ To foster close co-operation on EU matters with Member States’ missions via regular meetings at Ambassador, Counsellor, Information and Administration Officer levels.

§ To carry out press and information activities in pursuit of the above objectives.
