The Asia Foundation’s Environment program implements a highly diverse and growing portfolio of projects which help Asian countries address critical national and regional environmental challenges. Our topic areas cover broad themes including natural resources management, disaster risk management, green growth, and climate adaptation and mitigation, as well as concentrations in additional sub-thematic areas transboundary cooperation on water, air pollution, and fisheries; renewable energy; and urban climate resilience.

The Foundation frequently engages consultants at all levels: senior, mid-, and entry-level consultants respond to program development and implementation needs across 18 countries. Opportunities may be short-term, medium-term, or long-term, as well as part-time or full-time. To respond to these needs, the Foundation maintains a database of international development professionals. Successful consultants have relevant graduate-level education, significant international experience, and a depth of expertise in one or more of the environmental programming areas mentioned below. (Note: junior consultants must have at least 2 years of relevant experience to be considered.)

In addition to technical skills, essential qualifications include: excellent written and spoken English; strong communication skills; ability to independently with little or no supervision as well as work as part of a team; be results-oriented; and demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Experience and knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region are strongly preferred.
