Term Details: This position is a Locally Engaged Staff position, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Employment for LES in South Korea. This process will be used to create a list of eligible candidates for similar positions either indeterminate, term or emergency.

As a member of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) working in the international business development team (Trade Section) of the Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Korea under the direction of a Trade Commissioner (LE-02), the incumbent is responsible for supporting the Trade Section in the implementation of business development initiatives and the delivery of multiple services to clients and stakeholders.

This position provides support to Trade Commissioners covering a wide range of sectors and involves diverse and dynamic tasks, including managing logistics at events, financial support, and client relations, among others. It requires a high degree of flexibility and drive, and serves as an excellent entry point into the Embassy of Canada’s Trade Section.

The incumbent provides the following administrative support services:  (1) clerical duties including receiving telephone calls and visitors; preparing materials such as reports, letters, and charts, as well as making travel and accommodation arrangements; scheduling meetings and appointments; and assisting with pre-visit arrangements and hospitality events; (2) providing advice regarding office supplies, recommending changes in procedures and practices to meet changing or new situations; (3) tracking budgets; processing payments; maintaining records of expenditures, receipts, disbursements and fund balances; and providing related reports; (4) researching and compiling information; and  maintaining records, files, lists, and databases.

In addition, the incumbent also provides a wide range of logistic and financial management support to Trade Commissioners in the organisation of specific activities such as webinars, trade missions, trade show pavilions and related events.  It also involves engaging with a wide range of stakeholders both in Korea and in Canada such as TCS clients, service providers, event organisers, counterparts in the private and public sector.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position OR An acceptable combination of education and work experience.

 
 
Language:

  • Advanced written and spoken proficiency in English
  • Advanced written and spoken proficiency in Korean 

 
Experience:

  • At least 1 year of recent* full-time, professional experience in office management and/or administration
  • Experience supporting project management and delivery
  • Experience in providing client service to colleagues/clients/stakeholders.

*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years

 RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

Experience

  • Experience working in a foreign trade service or an organization supporting businesses in international markets.
  • Experience working with a Canadian organization or at the Embassy of Canada to Korea

Language

  • Ability to communicate in French 

Operational Requirements:

  • Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are 37.5 hours per week, in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations. 
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime after regular working hours/outside normal working hours (e.g. early mornings, evenings and weekends), when needed and on short notice.
  • Location of work: Embassy of Canada to Korea
  • Travel Requirements: Willingness and ability to travel in South Korea and internationally.

    The hiring or appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to obtaining Reliability Status (RS). Please note that RS must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal
    Ability to maintain a valid working authorization in South Korea for the duration of the employment term is a condition
    Health assessment may be requested at the discretion of the Head of Mission.
