Summary of Duties:

The Ontario Trade and Investment Office (TIO) in the Embassy of Canada of Korea is looking to welcome a dedicated and energetic individual to work as a Senior Commercial Officer. Under the direction of the Managing Director of the TIO, the Senior Commercial Officer contributes to the planning, development and delivery of the Province of Ontario’s investment attraction, trade program development, and research and innovation partnerships within the TIO area of operation and sector responsibility.

 

 Area of Selection:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Bachelor’s from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: Engineering, Science, Technology & Innovation(STI), Commerce, Finance, Economics

 

Language:

  • Fluency in English and Korean, both written and spoken;

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of employment experience of which at least 5 must be recent and direct experience in international business development international sales or foreign direct investment attraction in one or more of the following sectors:
  1. Clean tech (incl. Automotive / Battery / Material)
  2. Life Sciences
  3. Transportation
  4. ICT;

 

  • Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients;
  • Experience in project management and/or network building;
  • Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues.

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to: a video interview, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the factors that influence foreign direct investment, expansion and relocation decisions for Korean companies looking at opening subsidiaries abroad

 Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

 

  • Master’s degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: Engineering, Science, Technology & Innovation(STI), Commerce, Finance, Economics
  • Recent work experience in a foreign trade service or an organization supporting foreign companies or business people on the Korean market.

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Hours of work: Mondays-Friday: 08:30 to 17:00;
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
  • Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends); and
  • Must be willing and able to travel in Korea and/or outside Korea.

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

Other conditions of employment: Must be admissible for travel to Canada and within the Republic of Korea
