MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The successful candidate will form a key part of a busy team, (Media & Public Affairs), central to the work of the Embassy in promoting the UK to a Korean audience. The Internal Communications Officer will have primary responsibility for messaging to an internal Embassy audience, raising awareness amongst staff on key aspects of the functions and activities of the office. 

  • Engaging with stakeholders within the Embassy to produce concise, effective internal messaging; Lead on staff engagement; communicating the wider work of the Mission to internal audience.
  • Management of existing internal communications channels (incl. weekly internal BE Seoul Bulletin, quarterly internal BE Seoul newsletter, and internal announcements), and creation of new channels based on needs assessment (to be conducted once in position).
  • Organising monthly all staff meeting, including setting agenda, liaising with stakeholders (incl. presenters, PA team, IT team, JLL, receptionists) to ensure the meeting is well managed. Emceeing the monthly event to manage flow of the meeting and ensure work of the Embassy is well captured to internal audience.
  • Drafting/dissemination of a daily press review, drawing on local Korean media sources to produce an English language summary covering targeted areas relevant to the work of the Mission.
  • Management of admin work within the Media & Public Affairs team including, but not limited to: procurement; database maintenance; and budget management.

RESOURCES MANAGED (staff and expenditure):

  • The Internal Communications Officer will support the Head of the Media & Public Affairs team with budget management.

 

  • Fluent in English and Korean. Highly skilled in written and spoken communication in both languages.
  • Excellent translation and interpretation skills. Attention to detail is essential.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Language: English and Korean
  • Level of language required: Fluent spoken and written English and Korean


 

  • Experience of working within an Embassy environment
  • Experience in an internal communications role
  • At least 1 year full-time work experience

While some evening work and travel overseas (which might include weekends) and within Korea is required, we promote family-friendly flexible working opportunities, where operational and security needs allow.

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:15 (17:00 on Fridays). However, occasional evening and weekend working may be required, for which time off in lieu is given. The British Embassy encourages flexible working and various flexible working arrangements are possible with line manager agreement, including working from home
