Main purpose of job:
British Embassy Seoul is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Protocol & Political Officer (AO) in the Political Section. The job will offer an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in politics, UK-Korea relations and North Korea policy/human rights issues. The postholder will directly report to the Counsellor for Foreign & Security Affairs as well as to the Chief International Relations Advisor on policy priorities and embassy projects, while supporting His Majesty’s Ambassador (HMA) and Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) on protocol matters and various diplomatic events.
The successful candidate will have strong inter-personal and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly. He or she should be a considerate team player, willing to support the rest of the section and cooperate with wider Embassy staff to ensure smooth and effective execution of diverse responsibilities. The successful candidate will have good research skills, with an understanding of international relations and the Korean political context. As duties may vary from day to day, organisation and prioritisation skills are essential for the prospective applicant.

This role is for 12 months with possibility of renewal.

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:15 (17:00 on Fridays). However, occasional evening and weekend working may be required, for which time off in lieu is given. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. All candidates must be legally able to work and reside in the country of the vacancy with the correct visa/work permit status or demonstrate eligibility to obtain the relevant permit. Any costs related to obtaining or renewing permits and visas are the responsibility of the successful applicant.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
