The Global Green Growth Institute internship program (also called "Grow Green" Program) provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. PROJECT OPPORTUNITY

Asia Water Council (AWC) is a leading water platform that aims to provide tangible solutions to resolve water issues in Asia and beyond and support achieving sustainable development with clean and sufficient water. AWC consists of 152 members from 24 countries and actively cooperating with water-related organizations, including governments, academic and research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and civil society, as well as international organizations.

AWC manages the “AWC Water Projects,” where the projects are demand-based to help address water-related issues facing member countries through supporting the development of Project Concept Papers (PCPs) to be submitted to the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and other financial institutes for funding opportunities. Below are the selected project Concept Notes (CNs) for the 2023 AWC Water Projects:

(1)  Lao PDR: Drought Risk Assessment and Sustainable Water Utilization in Affected Province of Lao PDR

(2)  Thailand: Enhancing Climate Resilience of Water Infrastructure in Thailand

(3)  Bangladesh: Artificial Recharge of Ground Water Aquifer in Dhaka City

Recently, AWC and GGGI have signed an agreement to initiate the Project, which will be carried out until December 26, 2023. GGGI will take the lead in developing Project Concept Papers (PCPs) and its Executive summary based on the selected CNs for the three countries in Lao PDR, Thailand, and Bangladesh. 

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Korea Liaison Unit (KLU) to support relevant activities for the “2023 Asia Water Council (AWC) Water Projects for five (5) months. The tasks given throughout will not only provide the intern an opportunity to gain understanding of the works within an international organization, but also insights into the development of water-related projects.

The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

• Support the development of the Project Concept Paper (PCP) based on the Concept Notes of the 2023 Asia Water Council (AWC) Water Project,
• Support communications with internal and external stakeholders and prepare relevant communication materials to coordinate meetings or follow-up events,
• Facilitate engagement and partnership with relevant stakeholders in Thailand, Lao PDR, Bangladesh, and the Republic of Korea,
• Aid technical support in project-related documentation, including PCPs, reporting materials, meeting minutes, and communication letters,
• Translate relevant documents from Korean to English and vice versa, and
• Provide other related tasks assigned from time to time by the team.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s, or Ph.D. program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
• Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
• Possess an excellent command of business English and Korean.

QUALIFICATION

• Recent graduate in a Bachelor’s or Master’s- or enrolled in a PhD-level program in international studies, Climate change policy, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Water management, Geography or related field preferred
• Experience in project proposal development would be advantageous,
• Strong organizational skills that demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, 
• Excellent documentation abilities, utilizing MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
• Ability to drive themselves from problem-detection to problem-solving, to organize diverse information, and to work/deliver under time pressure,
• Experience working with international organizations or ministries would be an advantage, and 
• Fluency in both spoken and written English is a requirement, and a professional level of spoken and written Korean is desired,
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to handle complex multi-stakeholder relationships, working collaboratively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds,
• Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, and willingness to learn from others.

SELECTION PROCESS 

• Application that do not adhere to the selection instructions may not be considered
• Advancing candidates will be contacted shortly after the closing deadline

• GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work
• Due to high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 
• Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.
• Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  
• Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  
• Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
• Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  
• Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  
• Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
• Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
• Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
