Introduction
The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 209 projects in 123 countries and has committed USD 11.4 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

Position Objective
The Sustainability and Inclusion Manager, reporting to the Head of Office of Sustainability and Inclusion, will be responsible for managing, updating and further developing the Fund’s Environmental and Social Management System and its associated policies, including the environmental and social due diligence, monitoring and reporting. The incumbent is expected to lead a team of professionals.

Purpose

• Innovate on the Fund’s environmental and social management system including relevant and associated policies, procedures, guidance and references
• Coordinate the GCF’s due diligence process in relation to environmental and social safeguards (ESS), ESS disclosure, gender and indigenous peoples; to ensure consistency and compliance of funding proposals with environmental and social safeguards standards and relevant policies of the GCF
• Coordinate the work of a number of ESS, IP and gender specialists in relation to due diligence, and apply expertise in technical reviews, especially for high ESS risk proposals

Engagement

• Advocate for the application of strong safeguards standards to protect the reputation of the GCF
• Promote a culture and awareness with regards to safeguards within the organization
• Advocate for the adherence to the relevant safeguards policies and standards for assessing projects/programs to internal and external stakeholders

Delivery

• Oversee the implementation of the GCF’s environmental and social management system to ensure alignment with GCF’s objectives
• Organize knowledge management resources and tools to strengthen the safeguards due diligence process and to reinforce co-benefits
• Support the Head of Office, including by serving as Officer in Charge when needed.

Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

• Master’s degree in environmental or social sciences and management, environmental economics and
• policies, social development, or other relevant fields. Or a bachelor’s degree plus two more years of experience.  
• At least thirteen (13) years of relevant international experience including at least 5 years of experience in the implementation of environmental and social management systems/safeguards systems, environmental and social due diligence related to projects in developing countries
• Excellent people management skills with ability to lead and manage performance of a highly specialized team
• Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
