Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), duty station Bogota. The incumbent will report to the Head of the Training Unit, who is responsible for the overall management of this Unit located in the Operations and Resource Management Section, at the Office of the Chief of Mission Support.

Responsibilities

Within the delegated authority, the Associate Training Officer will carry out the following duties:
• In support of UNVMC mandate implementation, assists with the design, development, delivery and evaluation of learning and development initiatives for field mission staff and personnel including, inter alia, coaching, mentoring, and training on technical and substantive matters, safety and security, induction, leadership and management, communications skills, or planning;
• Supports in assessing the learning and development needs of teams and individuals in alignment with Offices/Sections/Units goals and UNVMC mandate;
• Collaborates with the mission staff to identify forthcoming training requirements and develop strategies to meet them;
• Contributes in setting learning objectives, and in developing and upgrading relevant training materials;
• Contributes in the coordination with staff and learning providers to ensure that training and development meets current needs and anticipates, to the extent possible, future needs;
• Contributes to monitoring the Mission Training Plan and to the evaluation of the effectiveness of training;
• Collaborates with other mission staff including advisors on cross/cutting issues, staff counsellor and other UN system entities to ensure that cross-cutting issues are incorporated in the design of learning and development programmes;
• Prepares charts, statistics and reports on the learning and development activities, such as participants' completion; evaluation results, etc.;
• Performs other duties as required.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in training or learning and development, adult learning, management, public or business administration, or a related area such as education or social science is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in learning and development, adult learning, training or a related area is required.

Experience in the design and practical delivery of formal training sessions and programmes is desirable.

Experience working in or for a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English and working knowledge of Spanish is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
