JOB DESCRIPTION

Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. For all IOM vacancies, applications from qualified and eligible first-tier candidates are considered before those of qualified and eligible second-tier candidates in the selection process. For the purpose of this vacancy, internal candidates are considered first-tier candidates.

 
Context

Since the opening in 1999, IOM Mission in the Republic of Korea (ROK) has been playing a key role in liaising among governmental and non-governmental actors in the field of humanitarian assistance in the Republic of Korea and promoting the principle of humane and orderly migration that benefits both migrants and society by offering quality trainings and research products.


Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) of IOM ROK and direct supervision of the National Project Officer (NPO); and in collaboration with relevant units at the Mission as well as Regional Offices and Headquarters, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for supporting project operation of the Humanitarian Assistance Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities. 
  2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
  3. Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
  4. Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information. Support administrative coordination of project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
  5. Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
  6. Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations and other forms of documentation.
  7. Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions.
  8. Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
 
Experience
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Skills
  • Demonstrated experience and skills for drafting written products in Korean and English for external audiences is a strong advantage;
  • Good knowledge of humanitarian affairs, international cooperation and relevant mechanisms in ROK and globally is desirable;
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), organization and interpersonal skills;
  • Problem-solving ability and a can-do attitude with cultural and diplomatic decency;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Words, Excel and PowerPoint is essential; knowledge of teamwork and teleconferencing tools is an advantage
Languages
  • Required: Professional proficiency in English and Korean is a must.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of other IOM official languages is a plus.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Other
Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.

  2. This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable. Vaccination against COVID-19 will be required for IOM personnel who are hired or otherwise engaged by IOM. As part of the mandatory medical entry on duty clearance, candidates will be requested to provide evidence of full vaccination.
