Job Summary

The Research Department of the IMF has two opening for Economist/Sr. Economist to work on the economic modeling of climate change and mitigation policies.

 Under the Structural and Climate Policies Division of the Research Department (RES), and as part of a team dedicated to climate change issues, the selected candidates will contribute to strengthening the Department’s work on climate change and mitigation strategies, with particular emphasis on CGE modeling and analysis. The candidates will contribute to the research agenda on the economic effects of climate change mitigation, the integration of research results in the multilateral surveillance products of the Fund, and the Fund’s effort to enhance surveillance of climate change issues in the context of IMF Article IV staff reports.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in economics or other relevant field (e.g., environmental economics, agricultural economics), and expertise in CGE economic modeling and environmental/climate change issues. They should have demonstrated the capacity to carry out high-quality policy-relevant research on macro-climate issues, possess excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills and have the ability to exercise independent judgment and leadership. Knowledge of the GAMS software and the GTAP database would be a plus.
 
The applicants should have proven research interests in climate change issues as well as a strong track record of academic and policy-relevant publications on these issues.
