US$ 77,326 net per annum, plus post adjustment (currently US$ 46,627). Salary is free of income tax in the United Kingdom.
- Assist the work of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), the Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) and other bodies supported by Marine Environment Division staff, as well as relevant working, drafting and expert groups, including preparation of documents, briefs and reports, in particular for items dealing with anti‑fouling systems, biofouling and ballast water management, and any other related items, as may be required.
- Assist in matters related to IMO’s policies regarding anti-fouling systems, biofouling and ballast water management; response to queries; drafting memos, briefs and articles; as well as preparation of publications and circulars.
- Monitor and undertake follow-up action in respect of requests for technical assistance related to the implementation of the AFS Convention, the BWM Convention and the Biofouling Guidelines and undertake, in co-ordination with Government officials, representatives of donor countries and agencies and other IMO officers, the development and implementation of technical cooperation activities and projects, including backstopping major projects implemented by IMO as may be required.
- Act as Technical Secretary for the GESAMP-Ballast Water Working Group of experts tasked with evaluating proposals for IMO approval of ballast water management systems.
- Assist the work of IMO within the wider UN system on matters related to marine biodiversity.
- Assist in the development, management and maintenance of related modules in IMO’s Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS), in coordination with the Department of Information Technology and experts from Member States and observer organizations.
- Cooperate with industry representatives, relevant NGOs and experts/specialists in ballast water management, biofouling and matters related to invasive aquatic species.
- Represent IMO at international/regional/national meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, etc., as required.
- Assist in any other tasks related to anti-fouling systems, biofouling and ballast water management or related issues, as instructed by the responsible senior officer(s), and undertake any other duties connected to the work of the Marine Environment Division as may be assigned.

Proficiency in standard MS Office applications including Teams and SharePoint is essential.
Knowledge of the operational and technical considerations relating to the transfer of invasive aquatic species via ship-related vectors (ballast water and biofouling) is essential.
Working knowledge of environment-related IMO Conventions and a comprehensive understanding of marine pollution and/or marine environment protection would be an asset.
Knowledge of IMO’s decision-making process would be an asset.
