Purpose
As a Nuclear Pressurized Equipment Engineer, you will develop, maintain and implement the Quality Assurance Program and support the Pressurized Equipment Group leader for topics related to French regulations for Pressure Equipment (PE) and Nuclear Pressure Equipment (NPE) when ITER acts as the Manufacturer.
You will provide expertise and a technical basis for the licensing process development, and the proper implementation of PE/NPE requirements to ensure compliance with the French Regulations.
Background
The Pressurized Equipment group is part of the Nuclear Safety Division (NSD) division; it is in charge of all issues related to the implementation of the French regulation for Pressure Equipment and Nuclear Pressure Equipment inside ITER Organization.
ITER is acting as operator of Pressure Equipment and Nuclear Pressure Equipment, but also as Manufacturer of these equipment. In its role of Manufacturer ITER apply a Module H/H1 Quality Assurance Program certified by an Agreed Notified Body.
Key Duties, Scope, and Level of Accountability
- Develops, maintains and implements ITER Quality Management Program for Module H / H1 to meet the Pressure Equipment (PE) and Nuclear Pressure Equipment (NPE) regulations;
- Implements the French regulation for PE and NPE and applicable code or standards during the PE/NPE design and manufacture;
- Propagates and implements the requirements of the French regulation for PE/NPE within the ITER Project;
- Manages, attends and prepares periodic audits performed by the Agreed Notified Body (ANB) in the scope of module H/H1 certification;
- Performs conformity assessment activities for PE and NPE manufactured by IO, proposes solutions and follows-up on corrective actions;
- In relation with the French authorities, the French operators of Nuclear Basic Facilities and the Agreed Notified bodies periodically establish a regulatory watch;
- Participates in responding to the demands and commitments of/to the ANB and/or French authorities during the manufacturing process related to PE/NPE manufactured by IO;
- May be required to be involved in installation and commissioning activities related to the operation of PE/NPE;
- May be requested to perform other duties in support of the project;
- May be required to work outside the ITER Organization (IO) reference working hours, including nights, week-ends and public holidays.
Measure of Effectiveness
- Successfully builds-up and executes all functions as described above and provides the required ITER documentation in a timely manner;
- Ensures accurate and up to date maintenance of ITER Quality Program for Module H/H1;
- Provides high quality and accurate responses to ANB and nuclear safety authorities within the defined schedule;
- Successfully integrates regulatory requirements for PE/NPE into the ITER project’s regulatory requirements.
Experience & Profile
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in Pressure Equipment and/or Nuclear pressure Equipment manufacturing activities under French regulation (design, material, forming, welding, Non Destructive Testing, tests…) within complex international environments or projects.
- Education:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, welding field or other relevant discipline;
- IWI and / or ISO 9712 certifications would be an advantage;
- The required education degree may be substituted by extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities and/or training certificates in relevant domains.
- Language requirements:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken);
- Working knowledge in French (written and spoken).
- Technical competencies and demonstrated experience in:
- Specific domains of expertise: French Regulation for PE/NPE, Manufacturing codes and standards, welding, piping/vessel inspection and/or Non Destructive Testing;
- Experience in application of manufacturing codes and standards for large nuclear project (EN Standards, ASME, RCC-MR…);
- Basic project management experience is required.
- Auditing experience to ISO standards would be advantageous;
- Working in a multi-disciplinary international teams and interacting with high level stakeholders, host authority and experts in different safety disciplines;
- Writing and presentation: write and review contractual and technical documents in the domain of expertise, document and transmit knowledge with data, clarity, and precision;
- Safety culture: interrogative attitude to safety problems, prudent approach to safety questions and ability to communicate and carefully listen to different opinions;

- Implements the technical control of the Protection Important Activities, as well as their propagation to the entire supply chain;
- May be requested to work on beryllium-containing components. In this case, you will be required to follow the established ITER Beryllium Management Program for working safely with beryllium. Training and support will be provided by the ITER Organization;
- May be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project;
- Informs the IO Director-General or Department Head of any important and urgent issues that cannot be handled by line management and that may jeopardize the achievement of the Project’s objectives.
- For staff expected to perform on-call, shift hours, or other work outside ITER Organization reference working hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, the possession of a driving license valid in France is required. No commuting vehicle will be provided by the ITER Organization.
