The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations is seeking a motivated and capable temporary research assistant to support the work of the Security Council team at the Mission by attending formal and informal UN meetings and making summaries, conducting research on related areas, working on the logistics of diplomatic events and functions, writing diplomatic notes and statements, and performing related administrative duties. The position will be for 6 months only if hired before 1 July, or until 31 December 2023 if hired after 1 July. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, including a 60-minute lunch break.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a bachelor’s degree in the aforementioned fields or other social science fields (relevant work experience preferred)
- Must be fluent in both English and Korean and be able to translate and interpret from English to Korean and vice versa
- Must possess the ability to digest and summarize large quantities of information and present it in a concise manner (advanced note-taking skills for meeting summaries are a necessity) and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- The ability to be a proactive problem-solver is preferred
- Must be eligible to work in the United States; we sponsor a G-1 visa for 6 months only for this position
- Must pass a security check and classified document access clearance
- Must not be in violation of Article 7 of the Regulations for Administrative Staff at Overseas Missions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
- Work experience in the field of international organizations preferred
- If you are a Korean national or have dual citizenship, the ROK military service requirements must not restrict your employment at the Korean Mission

Article 7 (Reasons for Disqualifications) of the Regulations for Administrative Staff at Overseas Missions
1. An adult who is legally required to have a guardian or limited guardianship
2. A person who has not been reinstated after being declared bankrupt
3. A person, within the past five years, who has completed imprisonment, or whose sentence was suspended
4. A person whose imprisonment probation end date falls within the past two years
5. A person who is in a period of imprisonment suspension
6. A person who is disqualified or lost one's qualification under court decisions or acts/laws/regulations
7. A person who was dismissed from one's position for five years due to disciplinary action within the past five years
8. A person who was dismissed from one's position for three years due to disciplinary action within the past three years
9. A person who has been hired through false information of one's experience or educational background.
10. A person who cannot travel overseas or is viewed/judged/classified as not appropriate to work for overseas Missions

Under the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Mission is hiring employees through a “blind process.” You must not include the names of your undergraduate and/or graduate schools, names of your family members or photos of yourself. Violating these rules may result in excluding you during the interview process.
Invitation-only written tests will be conducted during the week of May 15th. Only those who pass the tests will be invited to the interview session during the following week.
