US$ 77,326 net per annum, plus post adjustment (currently US$ 56,757). Salary is free of income tax in the United Kingdom.
Under the overall supervision of the Head, Marine Technology and GBS (MT/GBS) Section of the Sub-Division for Marine Technology and Cargoes (MTC), the incumbent will provide technical expertise associated with a number of activities, in particular regarding matters related to ship design and construction and the implementation of the goal-based standards verification audit scheme.
1. Carry out work, as directed, under the direct supervision of the Head, Marine Technology and GBS, in particular, on matters related to ship design and construction and goal-based standards.
2. Act as the Secretary of the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC) including preparation and organization of Sub-Committee meetings; draft and edit related documents, briefs and reports of such meetings; and carry out the appropriate follow-up actions.
3. Implement the Goal-based Standards (GBS) Verification Audit Scheme and coordinate the work of the GBS Working Group as required by the Maritime Safety Committee, in accordance with SOLAS regulation II-1/3-10 and the Revised guidelines for verification of conformity with goal-based ship construction standards for bulk carriers and oil tankers (resolution MSC.454(100)) and carry out Secretariat functions for any GBS related issues, including maintaining the GBS Trust Fund and List of approved auditors.
4. Carry out other Secretariat functions and provide technical expertise and assistance to the work of the MSC and MEPC and their subsidiary bodies, including expert, working and drafting groups, as directed, and prepare and review relevant meeting briefs, documents and reports, as required.
5. Respond to technical queries related to the MTC Sub-Division, in particular on matters related to ship design and construction, goal-based standards and the Polar Code in respect of applicable requirements of IMO instruments and prepare reports, publications, presentations, circular letters and other documents, as assigned.
6. Carry out missions on specific assignments and represent the Organization at national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and similar events, preparing and presenting lectures and technical papers, as required.
7. Provide expert advice on matters related to ship design, construction, stability and goal-based standards, taking into account the latest research and trends, and prepare briefs, reports and articles for publication, as required.
8. Assist with the implementation of technical co-operation projects relating to ship design and construction, the Polar Code and autonomous maritime surface ships as may be required.
9. Perform other duties, as may be required.

Minimum seven years’ work experience in at least one of the following fields: naval architecture or marine engineering.
A high level of proficiency in English is essential, with excellent drafting skills, including complete proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge and ability to understand complex technical issues in other official languages of the UN will be an asset.
