The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations seeks an experienced, talented, and highly motivated Speechwriter/editor. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, including a 60-minute lunch break.
Duration: until December 31, 2024 (to be extended for additional one year depending upon securing budgets and performance evaluation)
Duties:
- Prepare and edit English language presentations for the diplomatic staff of the Mission at the UN Security Council meetings
- Turn rough syntax of first and second speech drafts into fluent text for public speaking
- Draft informal remarks, business letters, and highly formalized diplomatic inter-mission memoranda
- Proofread and edit a variety of technical international relations documents quickly as they arise while demonstrating superb attention to detail
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, English, History, etc.) required, Master’s Degree strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of full-time work experience in Journalism, Non-profit/NGO Communications, International Relations, or a related field
- Native English speaker
- Strong research skills
- Knowledge of international issues and/or the work of the United Nations
- Must be eligible to work in the United States; we sponsor visas
- You must not violate the Article 7 of the Regulations for Administrative Staff at Overseas Missions
Article 7 (Reasons for Disqualifications) of the Regulations for Administrative Staff at Overseas Missions
1. An adult who is legally required to have a guardian or limited guardianship
2. A person who has not been reinstated after being declared bankrupt
3. A person, within the past five years, who has completed imprisonment, or whose sentence was suspended
4. A person whose imprisonment probation end date falls within the past two years
5. A person who is in a period of imprisonment suspension
6. A person who is disqualified or lost one's qualification under court decisions or acts/laws/regulations
7. A person who was dismissed from one's position for five years due to disciplinary action within the past five years
8. A person who was dismissed from one's position for three years due to disciplinary action within the past three years
9. A person who has been hired through false information of one's experience or educational background.
10. A person who cannot travel overseas or is viewed/judged/classified as not appropriate to work for overseas Missions
Compensation:
1. Monthly salary is approximately 9,000,000 Korean Won for a junior writer/editor and 13,650,000 Korean Won for a senior writer/editor (You will receive your salary in US dollars based on each month's exchange rate), depending on your work experience and the results of your written tests, which will be conducted by the Korean Mission between 23 and 27 February
2. You will not become a regular employee after you finish your temporary job at the Korean Mission
3. There will be no retirement benefits
4. There will be no transportation allowance for your flights between Seoul and New York
5. You will be 100% responsible for your US health insurance payment
6. There will be no housing subsidies
7. There will be no overtime payment or subsidies for any other expenses
8. Vacation plus UN and Korean holidays
