The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the OECD. Both the IEA and the OECD seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-member countries of growing importance to the world economy. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe.

The IEA seeks to recruit Energy Analysts to work in the Renewable Energy Division.  Her/his main responsibility will be to participate in the assessment of renewable energy technologies to deliver electricity, heat and mobility services, either directly or through the production of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels and feedstocks. The successful candidate will be part of a team of enthusiastic professionals and will report directly to the Head of Division. 

Main Responsibilities

Research and Analysis

• Analyse the use of hydrogen or other low-emission fuels to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors like industry, transport and buildings.
• Assess the status, costs, prospects and potential of using renewable electricity and/or heat to decarbonise industrial processes.
• Support the assessment of the role of renewables in IEA long-term scenarios and roadmaps.
• Help develop policy recommendations for a secure, system-friendly and cost-effective deployment of renewable energy technologies.
• Contribute to the assessment of renewable energy technology, research and innovation policies.
• Co-author and/or contribute to relevant IEA publications concerning renewable energy technologies.

Liaison and Outreach

• Collaborate with the scientific and expert community of IEA’s Energy Technology Network; derive knowledge from IEA Technology Collaboration Programmes to relevant IEA analysis and publications.
• Support the work of the IEA Renewable Energy Working Party (REWP) and the Committee on Energy Research and Technology (CERT).
• Liaise with regional networks working on development of cost-effective renewable energy technologies, with a specific focus on Asia.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

• An advanced university degree in physical sciences, engineering, economics or other relevant disciplines.

Professional Background

• A minimum of three, preferably five years' experience in renewable energy technologies, including a good understanding of energy technology policies.
• Good understanding of the energy sector and of energy technology research and innovation.
• Background and expertise on one or more of the following topics would be considered an asset:
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and supply chains of energy technologies.
  • Standardisation and regulatory framework processes.
  • Specific knowledge of energy technology development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Languages

• An excellent written and oral command of English. Good knowledge of other language(s) would be an asset.

Contract Duration

• Two year year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

What the OECD offers 

• Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at either 6 672.15 EUR or 8 232.66 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.

Selection Process:  

For retained candidates, written tests/video-recorded interviews are foreseen for mid May and panel interviews are planned early June 2023.

Please note that our Rules and Regulations stipulate that the mandatory retirement age is 65.
